Organized by Agoria and the Belgian Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce for Russia and Belarus (CCBLR),
Fact-Finding mission to Russia (8-11/12/2008)
Medical equipment in Russia :
business opportunities in growing demand
Experts expect Russias medical equipment market to expand 9% annually and reach US$2.7 billion by 2011.
Additionally, as incomes grow, healthcare is becoming a greater spending priority for Russians, opening up opportunities for Western and in particular Belgian manufacturers of medical equipment.
Russian manufacturers cannot compete at the high end of this market, making Russia's healthcare infrastructure an especially attractive target.
Why?
Russia has agreed to substantial tariff reductions for medical equipment following WTO accession Russian tariffs on these products will average 5%.
According to one report by the U.S. Commercial Service, the U.S. ranks #2 in terms of market share (22%) in the Russian market for imported medical equipment.
Western countries maintain a competitive edge, for example, in surgical equipment and supplies, orthopedic implants, and disposables.
